WE CAN HELP YOU PROCESS AND HEAL FROM MEDICAL TRAUMA
Medical trauma, defined as psychological & physiological responses to pain, injury, serious illness, medical procedures, or frightening treatment experiences, can lead to various ongoing challenges. If you have gone through a traumatic medical event, you may have experiences of complex grief, difficulty utilizing healthcare, upsetting somatic experiences, or hyper-vigilance about your wellbeing. You may have reached a point in your life where a recent medical diagnosis has affected your mobility, relationships, emotions, and even your core identity.
As therapists, we strive to support you in processing these changes as well as the implications of any impactful health experience. When someone comes in for assistance with health anxiety or medical trauma, our team creates an individually tailored treatment plan that emphasizes that person’s unique goals and needs. Our approach involves a combination of mindfulness-based CBT and narrative therapy. We also engage solutions-focused work of developing strategies of self advocacy, understanding, and coping with implications of the medical experience. Our therapists utilize a strengths-based lens to aid clients in realigning with joy and meaning in their lives.
Therapy can help you heal from medical trauma in various ways.
Firstly, it provides a non-judgmental space where YOU can share their feelings and experiences without fear of being criticized or stigmatized.
This can be especially important for anyone who feel isolated or unsupported during this time.
Secondly, therapy can teach you coping strategies for managing their symptoms, such as relaxation techniques and cognitive restructuring.
These skills can be helpful in reducing the severity of symptoms.
Finally, therapy can provide you with a sense of hope and empowerment, as they learn to take control of their overall health.
Know that you are not alone.
